1. General information
The goal is to understand and exploit the informative and patrimonial exploitation of a very numerous type of documents and centers that support the bibliographic heritage.
The student obtains a deep knowledge of the tools and systems for the management, acquisition, treatment and dissemination of the bibliographic heritage. The strengthening of generic or transversal competencies of an instrumental, interpersonal and systemic nature will contribute, together with the rest of the subjects, to the comprehensive training of future graduates in Information and Documentation
The subject responds to the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): 4 (quality education), 5 ( gender equality ), 8 (decent work and economic growth), 10 (reduction of inequalities) and 17 (partnerships to achieve thegoals).
2. Learning results
Upon passing the subject, the student must:
- Explain and understand the similarities and differences between historical and heritage collections and modern collections from their acquisition and selection.
- Explain and understand the similarities and differences between historical and heritage collections and modern collections from their treatment and conservation.
- Explain and understand the similarities and differences between historical and heritage collections and modern collections from their dissemination and use.
- Understand and use the tools for the identification and description of ancient heritage units and collections.
- Identify antique, historical and heritage units and funds.
- Organize and structure data related to the description of documents and heritage or historical collections.
- Apply standardization rules in bibliographic representations of heritage documents.
- Create and exploit tools for the dissemination of documentary units and ancient and historical or heritage collections.
- Identify the function, limits and possibilities of historical or heritage and antique collections.
- Understand and apply the legislation on bibliographic heritage.
3. Syllabus
The program of the course consists of the following units:
1. Fundamental concepts: antiquarian book, rare book, heritage collection, historical library, heritage library...
2. Material structure of the antiquarian book.
3. Formal structure of the antique book.
4. The identification of the antiquarian book and the patrimonial document.
5. Tools for the identification, valuation, appraisal and valuation of antique and heritage books and collections.
6. The library and historical collections. Heritage libraries: characteristics and peculiarities.
7. Deontological and legal aspects of the old fund.
8. The qualities and training of the antiquarian or heritage librarian.
4. Academic activities
The year is planned as a process:
a) It starts with a set of theoretical classes dedicated to explaining and explaining the specific characteristics of antiquarian books and historical collections:
b) Practical work continues to be prepared and corrected in the seminars related to this type of documentation and centers;
c) Next, a number of sessions will take place in the form of a seminar class in which the student presents his or her conclusions on the topics developed in the practical work.
5. Assessment system
FIRST CALL
Continuous assessment system
It will be evaluated by means of a practical work of individual character supervised by the teacher (three meetings are required, the result of which is also evaluated) on some specific aspect of the subject. It will be defended before the group. It is broken down from as follows:
1. 1st interview (job definition): 10%. The clarity of concepts and the interest of the proposed perspective made by the studentwill be evaluated.
2. 2nd interview (determination of the structure): 15%. The methodology and systematization of the problem will be evaluated.
3. 3rd interview (review of the work): 15%. Expression, wording and terminological adequacy will be evaluated.
4. Contents, that is, methodology and adequacy to the contents of the projected work: 50%.
5. Presentation, that is, synthesis and structure of the elements presented in the projected work: 10%
Global assessment test (to be taken on the date set in the academic calendar)
Written exam on some of the aspects of the theoretical classes of the subject. A specific topic will be developed during 2 hours.
SECOND CALL
Global assessment test: identical to that of the first call.
